NRPA Higher Education Scholarships

NRPA Higher Education Scholarships

The Narrow River Preservation Association initiated its college scholarship program in 1993 to promote and reward initiative in environmental stewardship and excellence in scientific course work.

With the scholarship program now in its 17th year, $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors: 1) graduating from high schools in the Narrow River watershed or 2) who live in the Watershed.

Applicants for the scholarships are judged on the quality of an original essay about the impact of human activity on the Watershed, their participation in environmentally-oriented activities in and out of school, academic achievement in science and math courses, and a science teacher recommendation.

NRPA honors the scholarship recipients by awarding the scholarship at the school's Senior Awards night, and acknowledging the recipients in the NRPA newsletter, Narrow River Notes, local papers, and at NRPA's Annual Meeting in the fall.

How to apply: Get a form by contacting the Guidance Departments at Narragansett High School, North Kingstown High School or South Kingstown High School, calling NRPA at 401-783-6277 or downloading an MS Word file. Deadline is April 5, 2010.
